How To: Create a Radiant Shine Line with Hair Color

By: Kenra Professional

It is no secret that hair trends tend to ebb and flow, but one constant is visibly healthy hair with radiant shine. There are many ways to help your clients maintain a shiny mane but finding the right hair color and coloring technique are top of the list. Below, we share the steps to perform a Kenra Color Sunrise-inspired shine line technique on highlighted hair. This is a beautiful way to add abstract dimension to the hair in the form of carefully placed color, which appears as a halo or a brilliant ray of shine.

STEP 1
Start off with a basic foil application, ideally a 5-section placement that has a top mohawk section. This allows clients versatility in where they can part their hair. Process highlights to a level 9 or 10.

STEP 2
Shampoo, condition, and towel dry before base breaking and toning to soften contrast (if needed.) To base break: apply Simply Blonde Extra Cool Base Breaker at the root of the natural hair for up to 1 level of lift in 5 minutes. At the same time, apply Violet Pearl Rapid Toner on the mid-lengths to ends to tone out any warmth simultaneously. Once that is complete and the canvas is ready, the Shine Line can be applied.

STEP 3
Take a mohawk section around the top of the head and split the rest of the hair in half. In the entire area underneath the mohawk section, apply 9CC from roots to mids and then melt into 9GG from mids to ends. This allows for a beautiful gradient effect.

STEP 4
Once the entire underneath is applied, apply 9CC to the mohawk section at the root and melt into Clear Gloss Demi towards the parietal ridge of the head. Then, melt the Clear Gloss into 9GG on the rest of the mids and ends.
