A Step-by-Step Guide on How Dry Shampoo Works

By: Kenra Professional

Does your hair get oily the day after washing, after a workout, or after going outside on a humid day? Well, using a dry shampoo in between regular wet washes might be for you.

Kenra Professional is going to explain just what dry shampoo is, how it works, what different dry shampoos we offer, some things to be cautious about, and how to apply it to your hair.

What Is Dry Shampoo?

Dry shampoo is a product that you can use on your hair when it needs a little pick me up. If you are a person that doesn’t wash your hair every day (which you really shouldn’t be), then this will be great for those no-wash days.

It’s also great if your workout causes you to sweat a lot, or you are outside for a while in the humidity and now your hair looks greasy and dirty. You should definitely give dry shampoo a try!

Oily hair can also come from other factors like genetics, overwashing, hair types, and misuse of products. Whatever the cause is for your oily hair, dry shampoo can help to control the oil and make your hair look amazing.

How Does It Work?

Alcohol and starch are the main ingredients in dry shampoos and help to soak up the oil and grease on your head.

There are some situations where dry shampoo is the best option and can be used for a couple of days in a row. If you are traveling or otherwise incapacitated and do not have access to a shower, dry shampoo is a great way to keep your hair refreshed until you arrive at your destination and can shampoo your hair properly.

Kenra Professional Dry Shampoo

Kenra Professional offers different dry shampoos for different needs. No matter which one you decide to use, know that it will get the job done and absorb the oil in your hair.

  • This is an oil-absorbing dry shampoo

  • Builds the ideal foundation for styling

How to use : Shake well. Apply to dry hair. Hold can 8 to 10 inches away from your head and spray it in layers at the root.

How Often Can You Use Dry Shampoo?

Too much dry shampoo can start to dry out your scalp and hair if you are constantly using it and not moisturizing your hair while using the dry shampoo. It is best to only use the dry shampoo for two days in a row and then do a wet wash.

When you are using dry shampoo, your ends may feel a little dry. Try using a pea-size amount of a conditioner on your ends to make them appear less dry and brittle.

  • Hydrates for smooth, soft, and shiny hair

  • Works well with all hair types

  • Provides thermal protection up to 450 degrees

  • Infused with precious gold for lustrous slip and opulent shine

How to use: Apply the desired amount to damp or dry hair. In this case, apply to dry mids and ends to refresh and replenish moisture and shine.

If you use dry shampoo for more than two consecutive days, you risk the chance of irritating your scalp and drying it out. There is also a chance that you can clog the pores on your head.

The residue from the dry shampoo can collect on your head and if you are not wet washing your head, then it can build up and possibly cause a slight rash or cause bumps on your scalp.

You can’t just use water to wash your hair, especially when you are using products in your hair like dry shampoo because water alone can not wash away the residue and dirt that collects. Make sure you are actually using shampoo.

Wet Shampoo

Dry shampoo may absorb oil, but it leaves behind residue and it doesn’t clean your hair or scalp. This is why you need to not just rely on dry shampoo and only use it on your non-wash hair days. There are a few different shampoos that we offer at Kenra Professional.

You should be using a clarifying shampoo once a week to strip your hair and scalp from the past week's products, dirt, and debris. If your hair feels really dry then on the day you use the clarifying shampoo, you should also use a hair mask or conditioning treatment. This will give a deep moisturization to your dry hair and help revive it.

On regular wash days, you can use a moisturizing shampoo to keep your hair soft and not brittle. How often you wash your hair depends on the texture of your hair. If your hair is curly or textured, you are probably going to wash your hair less often than if you would have straight hair. If you have textured hair you might only wash your hair with actual shampoo once every week.

What Have You Learned?

By now, you should be well on your way to knowing what dry shampoo is, how and when to use it, and when you need a break from it and to use wet shampoo instead. Always remember, dry shampoo will absorb oils and impurities from your hair, but it will ultimately need to be shampooed out eventually for a full and thorough clean.

Without actually washing your hair, you're exposing your scalp to possible bacteria and other harmful things that can get trapped in your hair when you don't wash it often enough.

Once a week when you shampoo your hair, it should be with a clarifying shampoo to get rid of all the gunk in your hair.
